Department of Photography

The Department of Photography: selling and buying collector's photographs at auction or by private treaty (private rooms) - Free appraisals and appraisals of photographic images from the 19th century to the 80s of the 20th century

Under the direction of Adriano Colasanti, the department covers the history of photography from the dawn to the last decades of the 20th century, paying particular attention to the still non-serial images made with the pioneering techniques of photographic reproduction (daguerreotype, ambrotypy, etc.). Starting from that precious incipit of unique and expensive pieces destined to an exclusive public, the research of our experts analyses the process of popularisation of the photographic language stopping at the last decades of the 20th century, those of the epochal digital turning point, a chapter excluded from the department's field of intervention.

The staff of the department awaits the study, cataloguing, evaluation and placement on the Italian and foreign markets of works on account of sale, both for the enchanting trade and in the form of private negotiation, the latter for pieces of particularly high economic and historical artistic value.

The department also offers a specialist appraisal service.

At the department is always available a selection of photographs in various price ranges that can also be purchased out of auction.

Graduated in architecture with a thesis on the aesthetics and technique of architectural photography in the pioneering era, Adriano Colasanti has been involved in photography since his adolescence not only as a collector and scholar, but also as a photographer originally engaged since 2009 in practical experiments of ambrotypy and daguerreotype under the guidance of Professor J.C. Bachelot of Rennes. His 6×6 architectural photography reports have won awards in competitions in this field.

In parallel with his studies and experiments in the photographic field, he conducts an activity of precision mechanics aimed at the design and manufacture of steel bicycle frames.
