The deity seated on a rock with a scroll in the right hand, a smiling expression on the face, signed ๆๅฑฑ (Rinzan) within a cartouche to the bottom.

Provenance: private collection in Rome.
Kanzan ( Hanshan in Chinese) is usually depicted together with Jittoku (Shide in Chinese). The two, according to tradition lived in the Tang era (618-907), were two Buddhist monks who became famous for their serene and simple approach to life.
