Equestrian portrait of Henry IV, French school 19th century

Bronze, dark brown patina
27x24x10,5 cm

The sculpture depicts King Henry IV on the head of his army at the Battle of Ivry in 1590. Engraved on the base of this fine sculptural group is the phrase that the king would have said on that occasion, referring to the white feathers placed on his helmet to be more easily recognized in the battle.

Typical of the workmanship of French bronzes of the period, the execution is very precise and realistic with a great degree of attention to detail.
