Inkwell, Padua or Venice Probably 16th century

Bronze, dark brown patina
6x8,5x9 cm

This small inkwell represents one of the simplest and oldest forms of its kind, called a pozzo. This desk object is cylindrical in shape, decorated by phytomorphic motifs and supported by three iron feet, possibly added at a later date, though ancient and pertinent.

There are parallels in various museums, among them in the Museo Nazionale del Palazzo di Venezia, Rome.
