Lion, Venice school Probably 17th century

Bronze, golden patina
9,5x13x6 cm

Fine lion realised in detailed naturalistic manner, represented in an unusual position (maybe a part of a larger composition or a door knocker?). The curious position allows us to hypothesize that the element on which the hind legs rested is missing.

For a parallel see Vincenzo and Gian Gerolamo Grandi’s door knocker (16th century, Castello del Buonconsiglio, Trento) depicting a lion ridden by a cupid, in the same position.
