Papal States silver tea kettle on stand- Rome 19th century after 1815, Retailer BALL TOMPKINS AND BLACk New York (active 1839–51)
of globular form embossed and chiselled with floral motifs, resting on a base with on a stand with three foliate feet and a burner. Hinged lid with greyhound-shaped socket. Hallmarked on all pieces with the chamber marks in use in Rome after 1815 for silver of 10 ounces and 16 denari (889/1000) and with the mark of the New York dealer Ball, Tompkins and Black (active 1839-51). A similar item with the same dealer's marks is on display at The Met Fifth Avenue Museum in gallery 774. Height 33 cm, diameter 21 cm. Weight 1820 g. Item condition grading: **** good.
