The painting is a good quality antique copy of the so-called Madonna della Cesta by Correggio, now in the National Gallery in London. The work enjoyed great fortune from the last quarter of the 16th century onwards also thanks to the engraving that was made of it in 1577 by Diana Scultori. Our version is very faithful and almost identical in size to the original, with respect to which it is made in the same verse.
