This canvas is an example of the profound spread in Venetian painting in the late 16th and early 17th centuries of Jacopo Tintoretto's manner. In a particular way, the author of our painting shows that he was well aware of the cycle dedicated to the life and martyrdom of St. Catherine of Alexandria executed by Tintoretto and his workshop around 1550.
