A pair of silver and cut glass claret jugs and cut glass - France early 1900s, mark of AMÉLIE CARDEILHAC

circular silver base decorated with rushes and ribbons, cut crystal body and loop handle with plant motifs; hinged lid. 950/1000 silver, hallmarked with the French hallmark for silver at the first title "Minerva's head with number 1" in use in Paris since 1838 and with the hallmark "A.C. - with crescent moon and leaf motif" in a diamond-shaped shield and the hallmark "CARDEILHAC" in a free outline corresponding to the mark of the silversmith Amélie Cardeilhac active in Paris with that hallmark from 1904 to about 1920
Maison CARDEILHAC (1804-1951) was founded by Antoine-Vital CARDEILHAC in 1804 at 4 rue du Roule, receiving various awards throughout the years; a bronze medal at the 1823 Exposition and silver medals in 1827 and 1834.
Between 1851-1885 the company was run by his son Armand-Édouard CARDEILHAC, who was awarded a silver medal at the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle and a gold medal at the 1878 Exposition Universelle.
In 1885 his grandson, Ernest, who had completed his apprenticeship with the silversmith Harleux, assumes the company's leadership assisted by three artists, the draughtsman Lucien-Hugues BONVALLET, the sculptor Ernest AIGUIER and the chiseller Frédéric VIAT, Cardeilhac displays his first works at the 1889 Exposition Universelle being awarded a silver medal.
Marie-Amélie CARDEILHAC, vedova di Armand-Édouard, assume la guida dell'azienda prima di cederla ai due figli Jacques e Pierre. Gestisce l'azienda tra il 1904 e il 1913 al 24 di place Vendôme, producendo piatti e tra il 1904 e il 1920 al 91 di rue de Rivoli producendo argenteria. Nel 1951 l'azienda si fonde con Christofle.
