Carved ivory sculprure, England (?), 19th century

Height x width x depth: 17.5 x 11.5 x7 cm. Weight: 70 g.

Elephant ivory (Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797 or Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758) carved in the round to depict a male figure in Indian colonial dress. Removable head, probably originally equipped with a weight that was inserted into the body of the figure. Resting on a stepped plinth.
