Russian icon with religious narratives and travel icon, 19th century

Height x width x depth: 55 x 46 x 3.7 cm.
The scene is dominated by the Crucifixion of Christ, complemented by two medallions with the Virgin and Child on one side and the Archangel with two prophets on the other. In the central scene, at the foot of the cross of Christ's torture is Mary, understood not only as a person, but also as a representative image of the Church. Together with her Magdalene and another woman echo Mary's sorrow and almost compose a funeral chorus, expressing their closeness to Jesus with their weeping. On the opposite side the apostle John and the centurion Longinus.
In the lower register we find a large bronze travel icon with simple shaped frame and polychrome enamels consisting of four panels depicting the Sixteen Orthodox Feasts. The artwork is characterized by a bright chromatism all played out in the juxtaposition of reds, blues, greens and yellow ochres, then fading into the gold that pervades the entire panel.
