The icon represents the sixteen Great Feasts of the Orthodox liturgical calendar, the most important solemnities of the year. The feasts are depicted in panes encompassing the central section, which is occupied by the most important Feast, namely Easter and the Resurrection. Among these representations are: the Nativity of the Virgin, Mary's Presentation in the Temple, the Old Testament Trinity, the Annunciation, Jesus' Birth, Jesus' Presentation in the Temple, Baptism, Entry into Jerusalem, Transfiguration, Jesus' Ascension, Mary's Dormition, Lazarus' Resurrection, the martyred saints Chirico and Julitta, the Joy of All the Afflicted, the Prophet Elijah's Ascension into Heaven, and the Exaltation of the Cross.
