Osheen Siva is a multidisciplinary artist from Thiruvannamalai, currently based in Goa. Through the lens of surrealism, speculative fiction and science fiction and rooted in their Dalit and Tamil heritage, Siva imagines new worlds of decolonized dreamscapes, futuristic oasis with mutants and monsters and narratives of queer and feminine power.
They work in a variety of mediums including immersive media, installations, performance art, public art and digital illustration.
Siva’s works have been exhibited around the country and some the recent exhibitions include a solo exhibition Vessel at Pulp Society in New Delhi, 2023; Mumbai Urban Art Festival organised by St-Art India Foundation in Mumbai, 2022; Future Porche, at APRE Art House in Mumbai, 2023, and The Illusion of Home held at Art & Charlie in Mumbai, 2023. Siva has also been featured in many publications and magazines such as the Forbes Asia 30 Under 30, 2022; Architectural Digest, 2020; Vogue India, 2020, among others.
This work belongs to areas of speculative fiction and explores a lot of Osheen’s personal history and Dalit heritage. The artist is hugely inspired by comic books and sci-fi, and tries to form these futuristic worlds in which she feels represented, comfortable in and would want to exist in such a future. It is a kind of an exploration of a utopian world that's beyond the kind of structures that exist today.
