Each title-page with title printed within a beautiful woodcut border, the text printed in black letter type, fully illustrated by many woodcuts. Book I: ff. 10 (of 14, lacking ff. 10-11, 13-14, so C2-3, C5-6). Book II, ff. 27 (complete, lacking last blank).

The first Flemish edition of Serlio’s book I-II, one of most famous Renaissance architecture textbooks, in which the illustrations assume primary importance. The woodcuts in this edition were copied from the Italian 1551 Sessa-Sabio edition printed in Venice. Both titles are within a strap-work border, the first copied in reverse by Pieter Coeck from the 1545 original French edition plate. Pieter Coeck van Aelst was a teacher of Hans Vredeman de Vries.
