The first Flemish edition of Serlioβs book I-II, one of most famous Renaissance architecture textbooks, in which the illustrations assume primary importance. The woodcuts in this edition were copied from the Italian 1551 Sessa-Sabio edition printed in Venice. Both titles are within a strap-work border, the first copied in reverse by Pieter Coeck from the 1545 original French edition plate. Pieter Coeck van Aelst was a teacher of Hans Vredeman de Vries.
