The attribution to Matthias Stomer was confirmed by Dr. Tommaso Borgogelli.
This remarkable depiction of the well-known biblical episode (Genesis, 4, 3-16) bears a close stylistic and compositional relationship to the larger version (125x176 cm) now in the Regional Museum of Palazzo Abatellis in Palermo.
