French tortoiseshell miniature with a portrait of Napoleon II, Early 18th century

Height x width x depth: 9.6 x 7.3 x 1 cm. Weight 75 g

rectangular in shape with chamfered corners made entirely of tortoiseshell (hawksbill sea turtle, Eretmochelys imbricata, Cheloniidae); in the centre within an oval reserve with a vegetal motif frame, there is a half-length portrait of Napoleon Franz Joseph Charles Bonaparte (Paris, 20 March 1811 - Vienna, 22 July 1832), son of Napoleon Bonaparte and his second wife Marie Louise of Habsburg-Lorraine, who was formally Emperor of the French for a fortnight under the name Napoleon II.

Item condition grading: **** good, minor signs of use commensurate with use over time, including surface scratches.
