A French silver cruet, Paris, 1819-1838

Height x width x depth: 32 x 23.5 x 12.5 cm. Weight 1538 g, net silver weight 678 g.

rectangular base with flower and leaf motifs resting on four feet with ferine paw ends; two cut glass bottles on openwork supports decorated with muses playing music. Central handle with swans and musician putti. 950/1000 silver, hallmarked with the marks for silver at the first standard in use in Paris from 1809 to 1819, with the unofficial hallmark used by the Association des Orfรฉvres in Paris for a silver fineness of 950/1000 "head of a Greek woman with letter P" and with the silversmith's initials D.G. for D. Garreau.

Item condition grading: **** good, signs of use commensurate with use over time.
