Russian bronze and enamel crucifixion, XIX secolo

Height x width: 17.5 x 11.5 cm.
Typical Russian orthodox cross made of gilded bronze and polychrome enamels.
At the top the figure of Christ the Savior with a halo and slightly below two Angels. The Body of Christ is fixed to the Cross with four nails, and his head is tilted to the right. On the inclined part below is represented the fallen Old Jerusalem; on the opposite side rises the New Jerusalem.
Jesus' death, in the Eastern tradition, is never represented in the spasm of agony and with the signs of His bloody Passion, but always appears illuminated with royal nobility.
