Wooden Throne with Crown - Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut (1999), 20th century
Height x width 185 x 83 x 77 cm
Nineteenth-century eclectic-style high chair used in one of the top scenes in Eyes Wide Shut, Stanley Kubrick's latest film. The back of the imposing chair, featuring a carving with the effigy of the double Habsburg eagle, is a clear reference to the Viennese setting of the novel from which the film is based, Arthur Scnitzler's Double Dream, a masterpiece of early 20th-century Austro-Hungarian literature.
