'BLANC DE CHINE' PORCELAIN FIGURE OF DOUMU

The deity sitting with his legs crossed in padmasana position on a base in the shape of a double lotus flower, two hands with palms on top of each other placed in his lap, two others intertwined at chest height, the remaining ones arranged around the bust of the figure, each holding a symbolic object, wearing a loose dress with a diadem on the head.

Doumu is a very popular deity of the large Taoist pantheon. According to legend, she is the mother of the seven stars of the Ursa Major. Her iconography derives from Marichi, a Buddhist deity.
