A RARE AND LARGE COPPER ALLOY FIGURE OF SHAKYAMUNI
probably Nepal, 16th century
The deity depicted sitting in the vajraparyankasana position, her right hand facing downwards in the bhumisparsha mudra gesture, touching the earth to communicate her Enlightenment, with signs of ancient restorations on the body.

Originally the head of the sculpture must have had a crown, according to an iconography of Indian origin which considered Shakyamuni a universal monarch (chakravartin).
