The Resurrection, Northern Europe, 16th-17th century

Oak or sessile oak wood
54 x 42 x 5 cm

Interesting panel carved in high relief depicting the resurrection of Christ. The scene is enclosed in a rounded triumphal arch decorated with diamond ashlar work and a series of roundels. Two Renaissance style angels complete the external decoration in the two upper corners. Christ rises inside a mandorla, on the group of Roman centurions guarding the tomb, foreshortened in the background. A standing angel on the right.

Probably Northern Europe, natural wood with a fine patina.
