Sardinia - Use of Sardinian stamps in Tuscany before their introduction
05.09.1860 - Envelope sent from Florence to Lonato and franked with a pair of 10 cent. brown purple n.14Ac. Although they had not yet been officially distributed in the Tuscan territory, there are very few known cases of use of Sardinian stamps before the official date of their introduction in the Tuscan territory (1 January 1861), this extraordinary use, of which only 5 other cases are known, is often associated with letters sent by or to soldiers; the letter in question appears to be the first known to us to have been franked with Sardinian stamps only.
