"In my recent work I have incorporated some resources that come from the realm of comics, such as the creation and design of a character depicted in the paintings: Señor Plano (Mr. Flat). Also, every painting is configured according to a sequence of frames through which different depictions are displayed. Consequently, every picture is an array and juxtaposition of different “images” through which I propose a tentative kind of narrative which is meant to be completed or fulfilled by the spectator.
In general, in this series of paintings I explore through multiple visual and cultural references that go from pop art and mass culture to constructivist painting and cubism, to ancient and classic art, and South American geometric abstraction and pre-Columbian textiles, among others. In this sense, every painting is a collection of visual experiences (both personal and collective) through which I attempt at reviewing how images that stem from different origins and styles can be intertwined to arrive at a “vision” pieced together from multiple visions."
