CARMELO NIÑO ©
(Maracaibo, 1951)

Untitled, 1986

Oil on canvas
cm. 80x60
He was born in Maracaibo in 1951. Regarding his work and career, Eduardo Blanco Estrada emphasised: "Carmelo Niño's painting is not observed, but rather imagined, evoked, dreamt of; even though he sometimes has inspirational references with certain portraits and figurative works of classical art." He has managed to open up a space for himself within Venezuelan figurative art, with an imagery full of magic, mystery and timelessness.
As for his artistic training, he studied at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas Neptalí Rincón in Maracaibo.
Represented by successful galleries, he has participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions, international art fairs and biennials, such as the prestigious ones in São Paulo, Paris and Venice.
"The works are made from memory, without models or photographs. From the classics I observe, I only take the composition; the rest of the contribution is very personal" says the artist. He has produced graphic material such as silkscreens and also numerous drawings.
