Format in-8ยฐ, mm 225x145, pp. (4), xvi, 492, (4) + 10 c. of plates / (2), vi, 400, (4) + 4 c. of plates. Elegant contemporary binding in smooth full parchment with gold titles and decorations on the covers and spine. Gold upper edge of the leaves. Marbled paper endpapers. Ex libris with noble coat of arms applied to the front endpapers of the volumes. With foxing and browning on the leaves/plates, partially worn volume hinges with some defects.

Old 19th century edition printed in London in 1831 by Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown and Green. Complete in 2 volumes. Work of the archaeologist Richard Burgess (19th century), with a large plan of Rome folded several times in volume 2, and 13 other plates outside the text: Palatine Hill, Baths of Antoninus, Fountain Trophies of Marius, Baths of Titian, Temple of Venus, Roman Forum, Crypta Balbi, Basilica Traiano and Baths of Diocletian. English text, with coins and epigraphic writings depicted in the text.
