First edition, very rare, of the work of the Ligurian Jesuit GF De Marini (1608-1682) on the history, habits and customs of the “Provincia Iaponiae", a term which in the 17th century included other countries in addition to the Japan of the shoguns; with testimonies on the progress of evangelization in Eastern Asia and the reports of the Jesuit missionaries sent to Tonkin and Cochinchina (now Vietnam) at the time of greatest intensity of commercial relations between this part of the Indochinese peninsula and Japan. 2 folding plates are preserved: Forma delle Galee del Re di Tumkino and the double plate Habito de Mandarini/Livrea de Soldati; however, the frontispiece and the plate with a facsimile are missing, as well as the last 2 index cards with the register.
