The book “Trattato del conseglio, et de' conseglieri de' prencipi” written by Bartholomaeu Filippe in 1599 is a work that deals with the importance of the Council in the management of the power of princes. The author, not new to treatises on the functions and administrative procedures of office, analyzes the role of the counselors and their influence on the final decision of the sovereign, emphasizing the importance of having a competent and reliable council. The treatise is divided into three parts: the first describes the role of the council in the management of power, the second provides practical advice for the counselors and the third analyzes the relationship between the prince and the council.
