Contemporary binding detached, with defects on the covers and parts of the spine sectioned. Well preserved text with sporadic foxing. Cuts in red. Copperplate frontispiece and frontispiece printed in red and black with typographic device (papal coat of arms).

First edition printed in Rome in 1744 for Girolamo Mainardi, by Francesco de' Ficoroni (1664-1747), a well-known collector, antiquarian and archaeologist. Numerous chalcographic figures in the text depicting medals, coins and portraits. Includes 38 chalcographic plates outside the text depicting the monuments of ancient Rome and 1 fold-out plate with hieroglyphics. Second part introduced with a loop.
