Format in-4°, mm. 240x180, pp. XVI, 88. Contemporary silent hardback in full marbled paper with slight defects. Marbled edges of the leaves. Woodworm damage to the last 3 leaves and to the back flyleaf, with small loss of letters on the last leaf L4 (p. 88). Sporadic foxing. Frontispiece printed in red and black with 2 woodcut devices depicting the Colosseum and 1 beautiful header on f. A1 with woodcut vignette also depicting the Colosseum, engravings by Ignazio Lucchesini (18th century). Pantheon as a tailpiece on f. K2. A printer's device on f. **3.

First edition printed in Rome in 1746 by Niccolò and Marco Pagliarini, archaeological and epigraphic studies on the Colosseum by the archaeologist and hagiographer Giovanni Marangoni (c. 1673-1753).
