Whewell, Rev. William: HISTORY OF THE INDUCTIVE SCIENCES, FROM THE EARLIEST TO THE PRESENT TIMES, IN THREE VOLUMES. London, 1837, John W. Parker.

3 volumes, in 8ยฐ, 22.5x14.5 cm. Contemporary full leather binding with gold decorations.
Rare first edition of the attempt by the English scholar William Whewell (1794-1866) to systematize the history and evolution of inductive sciences over the centuries; the author, one of the major English thinkers of his time in the philosophical and especially scientific fields, is also the father of several important technical-scientific neologisms, starting from the term โ€œscientistโ€ itself. The work, published in the 3 volumes presented here, is preserved in a set of 3 elegant full leather bindings adorned with elaborate floral frames imprinted in gold on the boards, marbled edges, noble ex-libris.
