Rare first edition of the attempt by the English scholar William Whewell (1794-1866) to systematize the history and evolution of inductive sciences over the centuries; the author, one of the major English thinkers of his time in the philosophical and especially scientific fields, is also the father of several important technical-scientific neologisms, starting from the term โscientistโ itself. The work, published in the 3 volumes presented here, is preserved in a set of 3 elegant full leather bindings adorned with elaborate floral frames imprinted in gold on the boards, marbled edges, noble ex-libris.
