The present painting shows an interesting formal relationship with the canvas of similar iconography now conserved in the Puskin Museum in Moscow and referred to Carlo Coppola there, after an earlier attribution to Micco Spadaro. Both works, but particularly the one in question here, are moreover to be related to an engraving by Jacques Callot depicting the same subject (see G. Sestieri and B. Daprร , Domenico Gargiulo detto Micco Spadaro, Rome 1994, no. 183, pp. 336-337).
