German solid silver basket, Hanau, late 19th century

of oval shape with side handles, entirely openwork and decorated with geometric motifs, fleur-de-lis and festoons connecting oval reserves, two of which bear family heraldic coats of arms. In the centre are half-length portraits of the patrons: the female figure on the right, richly dressed and adorned with gathered hair, the male figure on the left, elegantly dressed and with the hair of the time, the figure of the young son below.
Hallmarked with silver hallmarks in use in Hanau, Germany, in the late 19th century and with import hallmarks in use in London in 1901-02, importer Isaac Miller.
