Russian Iconnwith saints, 20th century
Height x width x depth: 31 x 27 x 3 cm. Weight: 1690 g.
Tempera on panel with floral motif frame. In the centre are two standing, frontal figures of saints, with a small icon of the Madonna and Child at the top dividing them. The composition is known as the Virgin Eleusa (Eleusa = benevolent in Greek, later translated as Tenderness or Umileniye in Russian), which conveyed the content of the image very well. The Virgin holds the Child with her right arm while her right hand points at him.
