Solid silver Tas, 18th - 19th century

Height x width: 24.5 x 19 cm. Weight: 225 g.
The Tas, or plaque for the Sefer Torah, is a decorative element typical of the Jewish religion, used to adorn the Torah scroll, the sacred text of Judaism.
The object has a central structure depicting the Tablets of the Law, with Hebrew inscriptions representing the Ten Commandments. On either side of the Tablets of the Law are two rampant lions, a symbolic and recurrent motif in Jewish art, representing courage and strength, as well as being a reference to the tribe of Judah, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. At the top is a crown, surmounting a Star of David.
