Ex-voto with the patron and Saints, 17th century

This oil on copper, in a wooden gilded frame, is an ex-voto. An ex-voto is the requests of a miracle or a way to thank the Saints for a miracle by a patron. The patron of this ex-voto is depicted in the center, bending is knee and wearing elegant robes of those ages. He is looking at Jesus and the Virgin, who are on the top of the grand theater made (word that refers to the architectonichal structure of the stage, that had an acoustic function and delimited the space, framing the stage and On On the verso an unidentified inscription.

Ex-votos are handcrafted artifacts that represent testimonies of devotion and religiosity often related to miraculous events or requests for miracles, often placed between history and legend. The themes represented are usually Madonnas, saints or categories of vows such as healings, accidents and natural disasters, and their patrons range across social classes.
