Nativity, Naples, early 19th century

The work rests on a wood and gold leaf base and depicts the Nativity scene with Joseph, Mary, and Baby Jesus in the center, resting on metal supports. The heads are made of polychrome terracotta, the eyes are made of glass, the limbs are made of wood and jointed, the body is made of tow and the robes of silk. The child is made entirely of terracotta. 
The Virgin, left, is seated and clad in powdery silk robes and turquoise cloak; Joseph, right, is clad in brown silk coat and pants, with orange stole, in his left hand holds a staff with flowers and is standing facing the Child Jesus lying in the center.
