Hercules and the Nemean Lion, Mantua area, 17th century
Round bronze plaque with dark patina; 190 mm.
The scene is invaded by the two bodies that fill all the available space.
There is a certain assonance with the roundels made by Pier Jacopo Alari Bonacolsi, known as l'Antico (Mantua, circa 1460-1528) depicting the labours of Hercules now in the Bargello (Florence).
Beautiful fusion with an archaeological taste, material, refined in detail, probably dating back to the 17th century.
