Maestro IO.F.F. (Giovanni Fonduli?)

Mucius Scaevola

Round bronze plaque with light brown patina and traces of gilding; 54.6 mm; 36.4 g.

Muzio Scevola, armed and dressed in the Roman style, places his right hand on a burning brazier: he is followed by a soldier with the eagle emblem, a knight with a labarum and two galloping knights. On the right, two male figures seated under an arch with pillars. Dotted background, three holes.
Rare ancient casting for bindings.
Ref. Rossi F. coll Scaglia 2011, pp. 266-268 type var. D; Toderi - Vannel 1996, pp. 73-74, n. 118\121; Toderi โ€“ Vannel 1998, pp. 142-143, n 142\143.
The latest studies of this master, Rossi 2011; Fulton 1989; Collareta 1997; tend to assign the signature of the master IO. FF to the goldsmith Giovan Francesco Furnio from Bologna.
