In the foreground, a kneeling man (the keys of St. Peter on the ground in front of him) who is about to be struck by a man behind him. In the center, between a group of Roman soldiers on horseback and an emperor on foot with a sceptre in his hand. On the right, a woman holds a child by the hand as they run away from the scene in fear. In the background, a hilly landscape; on the left, the Colosseum and on the right the Arch of Constantine. Below the predella, a battle scene? Or the scene of the Conversion of St. Paul.
