Galeazzo Mondella detto il Moderno
(Verona, 1467 - Verona, 1528)

Deposition

Rectangular bronze plaque with brown patina; 93 x 59 mm.

The composition revolves around Christ laid in the sarcophagus. The front of the shrine presents a lively scene with high-relief figures in a classical architecture. Christ is laid down by John of Arimathea and the Madonna. Behind the Deposed are the three Pious Women with Saint John. In the background is a landscape depicting Jerusalem and Golgotha.

Let's compare our plaque to the one from the Kress collection, whose dimensions are 102x68 mm.
