Rectangular bronze plaque; 85 x 66 mm.
Moderno was one of the most important producers of plaquettes of the Renaissance. He began his activity in Verona influenced by the work of Venetian and Lombard artists such as Mantegna and Pier Jacopo Allari Bonacolsi, known as l'Antico. The plaquette in question is one of his most fascinating works, linked to the theme of the Labours of Hercules.
Present in various museums and with different variations, ours can be compared with that of the Carrand collection preserved at the Bargello, Florence. The frame of the plaque is slightly larger than ours, hence a slight difference in the measurements.
The one in the Bargello measures 78.8x58.5 mm.
