Pair of lions, FRENCH MANUFACTURE (?), 18th-19th CENTURY
Patinated bronze with traces of gilding. 18 x 35 x 16.5 cm with the marble base; 12.5 x 27 x 14 cm only the bronzes
Beautiful pair of lions in cast bronze and meticulously chiseled in the details of the fleeces and manes. These are made very realistic thanks to the meticulous cold working by chiseling and punching.
The splendid plastic rendering provides us with two reclining lions that turn and roar at each other, in symmetry: a very naturalistic result that repeats late Baroque motifs that cannot be excluded in the dating, even if for the sake of caution they are placed in a slightly later period.
The state of conservation of the original gilding, mixed with the black-brown patina caused by time, leads us to a more coherent dating to the 18th century.
