Woodpecker, Tuscany, probably 17th century

Bronze black-greenish patina
This knocker, or knocker, was created to decorate the outside of door leaves.
This is a very famous object linked to the Medici family: see the central coat of arms, with six "balls", supported by a pair of cherubs.

There are many copies available up to the 19th century and beyond, this one, due to the quality of the material and the patina, could be an ancient version, probably from the 17th century.
Very few traces of cold working, casting made for the exterior, which retains greenish traces due to exposure to the elements.
