20th Century Decorative Arts

20th Century Decorative Arts

The 20th Century Decorative Arts Department curates auctions dedicated to applied arts, and caters to an audience passionate about the beauty and uniqueness of the art produced in the 19th century.
Led by Raffaele Cecora, the Department specializes in 20th-century decorative arts, and puts a focus on glass artworks and ceramics produced during this prolific period. The term decorative arts includes a wide variety of works that, unlike fine arts - which are meant for observation, transform everyday objects into artistic expressions.

Among the most notable names we've had the pleasure of handling in the decorative arts auctions are important designers and artists of the 20th century, among which there are Carlo Scarpa, Max Ingrand, Gio Ponti, Barovier, Galileo Chini, Pietro Melandri, Ettore Sottsass, Emile Gallé, and many others.
The 20th-century decorative arts auction catalogues often include works from some of the most well-known Italian manufacturers, such as Lenci, Richard Ginori, F.A.C.I Civita Castellana, and Ceramica Italiana Albissola. We select a wide variety of works, including lamps and chandeliers, ceramics and art de la table, glass and sculptures, sometimes unique pieces or limited-edition works. These are not just objects designed to enrich and enhance spaces, but artworks that have both an aesthetic and a functional role in everyday life. It is this combination that makes applied art so original and appreciated, as it can harmoniously combine beauty and utility.

A strategic element in the selection of applied arts works is their evaluation; our experts dedicate great care to the study, cataloguing, valuation, and market placement - both in Italy and internationally, of 20th-century decorative art objects for sale. These pieces are offered through auctions, with catalogues published on our website, as well as through private sales. This sale method is reserved for works of high economic and historical-artistic value. The evaluation is an important activity of this Department, and one that allows placement on the art market; the valuation analysis takes into account various characteristics of the artwork itself that includes author, provenance, aesthetics, materials, restorations, and inclusion in exhibitions.
Following the study and analisys of the piece, our experts are able to provide a market value, that reflects the uniqueness and quality of the work.

The wide selection of Bertolami Fine Art works in the 20th-century decorative arts auction catalogues attracts an international clientele looking for rare pieces of significant historical and artistic relevance. The lots offered in the decorative arts auctions provide a variety of styles and materials, ensuring unique opportunities for collectors and enthusiasts to enrich and expand their collections. Each auction represents an unmissable opportunity to discover and acquire works that combine beauty and artistic value. At the 20th Century Decorative Arts Department, a selection of objects from various price ranges is always available for purchase outside of the auction.

Art scholar and collector Raffaele Cecora has extensive and varied experience in the art market, also as a gallery owner. He is particularly known for the Ricerca d’Arte project, one of the first Italian galleries to specialize in 20th-century Italian figurative sculpture.
