Antiques, Furniture & Art Objects

The Department specializes in the sale of antique furniture, collectibles, and high-quality works of art, covering the field of applied arts from the 15th century to the early 1900s. Under the direction of Fabio D'Amelio, with external consulting by Fabio Romano Moroni and the support of experts from Ce.S.Ar (Center for Archaeometric Studies), the staff of the department dedicated to antique furniture, antiquities, and art objects handles the research, evaluation, and cataloging of works of art sourced from private collections and consignments.

Carefully selected by Bertolami Fine Art experts, these works and objects are offered for sale through two main channels: auctions and private negotiations. The latter is reserved for items of exceptional historical, artistic, and economic value to ensure confidentiality and, when desired by discerning collectors, a tailored approach to sales.
The department's offerings include exquisite antique furnishings, period furniture up to the early 20th century, decorative objects, antiques, table clocks, antique pendulums, art objects such as small sculptures, chandeliers, candelabras and candlesticks, glassware, ceramics, majolica, and porcelain, art de la table, objets de vertu from the 16th century to the early 1900s, antique tapestries, and more. In addition to buying and selling activities, the Department provides specialized services, including appraisals, diagnostic analyses, and the preparation of antiquity certificates necessary for obtaining licenses issued by the C.I.T.E.S. Certification Service of the Italian Forestry Corps.

These certifications are crucial for the sale of furniture and objects made, even partially, from special materials such as fine woods, ivory, coral, tortoiseshell, leather, and materials derived from endangered wildlife species. The trade of these materials is regulated by the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), implemented in Italy through Law 150/1992, later amended, and decrees by the Ministry of the Environment dated April 19, 1996, and April 26, 2001. The Department always maintains a selection of antique and period furniture, antiques, and applied art objects available for purchase outside auctions.

Fabio Romano Moroni serves as the president of Ce.S.Ar (Center for Archaeometric Studies) and as an expert for the Civil and Criminal Court of Rome in the fields of antiquities and valuables. He is registered as a Perito and Expert with the Rome Chamber of Commerce. Specializing in estate inventories, inheritance divisions, C.I.T.E.S. regulations, and non-destructive diagnostic analyses of cultural heritage, he also has extensive commercial experience in the antiques sector. His notable achievements include cataloging Villa Savoia in Rome and numerous publications on diagnostic analyses. In 2018, as the head of the Ce.S.Ar Department for Scientific Analysis of Cultural Heritage, he patented, in collaboration with the University of Rome La Sapienza and Ars Mensurae, the XART Fingerprint Authentication System, an innovative anti-counterfeiting method for artworks and valuable objects (paintings, silverware, bronzes, porcelains, etc.).
