Austria, Box in wood and enamels..., Historical memorabilia...

Wooden document box, covered in leather, with two side handles, four support feet and hardware in gilded bronze, colored enamels with guilloche details, details in silver foil or silver-plated metal. Used to hold an award or documents of recognition for an Austrian state official, or person of merit, on the occasion of the "GERMAN INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION of 1903", as evident from the engraving "ALLGEMEINE DUTSCHE AUSSTELLUNG AUSSIG 1903". Initials "C A" with applied golden crown, white and red enamels in the central coat of arms; the left frieze (colored enamels with double-headed eagle from the Habsburg Empire) and the right frieze (colored enamels with helmeted lion) representing the symbol of the city of Ústí nad Labem - Aussig, at the time Austria, now a Czechoslovakian city; wreaths of laurel and oak; medallions with applications in silver probably of the symbols of arts and crafts at the four corners of the lid; laurel and oak wreaths in silver plate, with golden, green and red enamels; hinges with enameled details; pink leather with golden embroidery. The box opens by a concealed lock, with a large storage compartment lined in red velvet.
